The Wisdom of Life

Dear Blessed One,

I have been asked many times over the years how I schedule things if I am not looking into the future and making plans.

In the past, I would attempt to make things happen through my will and sheer force. I did not know or understand flow or guidance. If what I wanted was not happening, I would apply even more mental and physical pressure until I got what I wanted or gave up out of exhaustion. When I did accomplish the goal through the above method, the results were not always what I expected (usually a disappointment). I was identified with the mind and didn't recognize its self-seeking.

The mind, or ego, longs to fulfill its needs, which is typically to expand itself in some way. Planning anything from that space will often cause blunders, pain, unrest, or suffering.

Of course, in life planning happens. For me, scheduling anything from events and travel to time with friends and family comes out of stillness. It comes through me (guidance) rather than from me (mind). Life is constantly creating and showing the way, even though in the moment it may not make sense to the mind. When we are open to the natural flow of creation, it becomes easy to see what is next in life.

I still have intentions and visions of what I might like to see unfold in my life experiences. However, if it doesn't flow, if there is not a sense of the universe supporting me, I surrender to the wisdom of life. I do not add aggressive energy to attempt to make things happen. I know life is guiding the way, all ways. I wait, knowing that life has something different in store for me.

Whether awake or identified with the mind, life challenges, difficulties, and painful experiences still come. The only difference is that after awakening, the way we respond to these things changes. Rather than reacting from identification with who we think we are or unconsciousness, (force, will, mind, resistance, beliefs) there is space to see, allow, feel, and respond from consciousness or stillness.

It is simple to exercise the ability to rest with whatever life is presenting us. It is not always easy. One has to be willing to drop everything. When we surrender everything we think we know about a situation or experience, a response can arise though wisdom and knowingness.

Drop the should/s and shouldn't/s. Drop the belief that something has gone wrong. Drop all the mind resistance to what is and breathe. Feel. See if you can be with discomfort without going into judgment or fix-it mode. Experience and express the feelings in a healthy way. Breathe some more. Every time the mind comes in with a story and all the reasons why something should not be happening or something else should be happening, bring awareness into the body and feel. Don't attempt to stop the mind, just stop listening to it. You don't have to follow it.

There is so much more to you than who you think you are. The you that you think you are is what stands in the way of you accessing the You that you truly are... the timeless, boundless, infinite, wise and holy You. Tell that other you thank you for all the ways it has helped to pave the path home to You.

Much Love and Blessings to You!
